The word “Advent” is derived from the Latin word adventus, meaning “coming”. During Advent the Church looks back upon Christ’s coming at Christmas in celebration while at the same time looking forward in eager anticipation to the fullness of Christ’s kingdom when He returns again.
During the Advent season some people celebrate with calendars to count down to Christmas.
